end of the university term

Thu May 7, 2009, 12:15 PM
Well i had my assessment today and i got a C...i was pretty dissapointed considering i got an A last time. i guess i must not have shown improvement or whatever even though ive been trying hard, they seem to have been pretty harsh on most people this semester.

its reawakened the whole 'do i want to go back' debate in my head again.
mum came to pick up my stuff from my studio space at uni and then we went back to my student flat and sorted out a few things to take back home though most of the clothes and dvds still need sorting but the paintings and things were taking up so much room in the van anyway. it was nice to spend a bit of time with mum away from the house for a while, ive missed living with her.

im relieved its getting to summer now and i can rest for a bit, ive got so much stuff i want to do for myself and not have to worry about having to complete university projects though there is a summer project of gathering images that inspire us.

ive hardly slept for 3 days due to stress and now im just tired x____x

90% of all teens would have a breakdown if they saw Hannah Montana standing on the edge of a 6 story building...put this as a signature if you're the 10% yelling "JUMP!!!!!"

This is why I won't do art education. They don't appreciate technical skill or anything ie. realism...they want abstract rubbish because thats in fashion.
The grades they give just don't reflect my work...or yours.

Ahh, I know how you feel. The after semester stress and exhaustion. It is very frustrating how subjective art can be. One Prof gives you A's while the other gives you C's for comparable work. :(

Many successful artists either never went to University level schooling, or quit mid way through Uni. My Illustration Professor for example never finished his BFA, and now he is a nationally respected artist and has set up the art program at my Uni, mainly illustration, but he has helped strengthen the whole program.

I considered quitting the program after Sophomore year... I had learned all the basics I didn't know, and the Profs had started to grate on my nerves. Abstract this, stylize that, blech. What they didn't seem to realize is that I already had a style coming into the program, and unlike all the other students, I didn't need to make up one. But after all the time and money I had committed to the program and Uni, I figured that I could grit my teeth and bear it for a couple more years. After all that work I at least wanted to walk away with my god d*mn BFA!!! We shall see if that choice pays off come this fall when I graduate. :)

agree with all that was said... don't see your work through their eyes. I believe you can't grade artwork anyway, how can you when it's all so different? It only serves to inhibit your personal growth as an artist... Keep faith in yourself, hope that doesn't sound too claptrappy lol.
