Vista is ebil

Sun Jun 15, 2008, 4:35 AM
I got a new laptop recently as my old one is rapidly going downhill, the internals are fine but its overheating, its got keys missing, the screen has a few lines of dead pixels and now the power cable doesnt register as being in unless its held there....so i got a new one.

Its a lovely laptop, the screen is brilliant, the sound quality is amazing on the headphones and i really like everything about it save for the ridiculously short battery life which is apparently a problem with this type of laptop.

Trouble is...it has Vista. ive heard a lot of people bad mouthing vista and i thought that maybe they were exajurating....but now ive found i agree with all their sentiments, including my dads who said that whoever designed it needs to get fired.

ive never, ever had an operating system that is such a memory hog. This laptop has 1GB of ram and a 2.2Ghz processor....and yet it lags like hell because it just doesnt have enough memory to run even basic stuff on Vista....i mean what they hell? its got more ram and processor speed then my old laptop and my knights laptop combined and they both whoop its arse when it comes to speed of doing anything. as soon as i can afford it im getting XP for it, Vista is driving me nuts.

my knight is coming home now, mum has gone to pick him up from the bus stop in the local town. i havent seen him for about a week and a half so ive really been missing him. ive just been glad that ive had my best freind to talk to and keep me company as i think without her id probably have gone mad. I havent been sleeping properly on a night, but i dont do well on my own anymore. when my knight is here we dont even talk much, but its enough just to know he is there. i feel so much more stable when hes around, when hes not there i moodswing in every different direction all the time.

well the good news is that microsoft are considers getting rid of vvisa in a few years and doing a cross program, it would have the best of windows and vista. I wish u the best with it. Take care and happy drawing.
i LIKE vista...there...i said it...i LIKE it...though I did have to by another GB of RAM for the top of lap pc...aaaand it did take me a while to get used to it's quirks...and I've learned not to take it too personally if programmes don't work first time...sigh...buuut, now i do like it, it's pretty, makes me feel like i own a mac, but is a microsoft computer...aaand it doesnt have the annoying startup and goodbye tone, which i know yu can change, BUUUUT I couldnt be arsed... :)
I totally agree that Vista is evil. I just got a new laptop as well, with Vista installed as well. Stupid software should never have been released. I mean they should have gotten some people to test it before they put it on the market and see how many faults Vista has. And I agree with your dad about they should be fired, those who made Vista.

There is a saying: yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the "present."
I got a new laptop recently and it's also vista. It has 2GB RAM and 1.60 GHz processor, and it works really fast with CS3. I really liked vista until I read that it's constantly using RAM tracking what you're doing and sending it out to microsoft against your will. And you know those annoying little messages you get like 'you cannot complete this action without an admin account' even though you ARE an admin??? That's microsoft's way of stopping you from doing something it doesn't want you to do. Stupid vista.

...have you started twilight yet?
vista is nothing but a bad rippoff of the OS X systems  I have amac that I'v ehad for a few years now, and it's only been troubel with it once, which was easily fixed. The bf got himself a new comp about a year ago, it had vista and it's allready been mean troubel with it several times, and he actually LOST EVERYTHING on it and had to wipe the systems cos of some problem...

Vista is annoying in the beginning...ages later when you're used to it it's ok. But that's it.. ;p

You should be careful when downgrading to XP from Vista. This laptop I'm currently writing on was downgraded from vista business to XP because I didn't trust vista could run all the apps I needed it to.
This laptop was brand new and thus far since owning it from late last yr december its been to the repair shop 5 times and constantly has problems. I think it has to do with the fact that the laptop was not supposed to be downgraded (I contacted the brand directly and they said I should have gotten the OS I wanted instead of downgrading it, but it had a large number of the features I wanted eg energy saving, company is environmentally conscious, had enough memory and the processor was over 2 GHz etc etc. The guy told me that this problem happens all over with just about every brand that has been downgraded from vista) I can't tell you how i wish I'd just gotten XP in the first place, I would have had to pay maybe around 10 - 20 % more concerning the overall cost but I wouldn't have lost 8 weeks in total of potential work (and trust me, working in a net cafe with tons of people milling around is not easy and you just can't concentrate) If the laptop is still under the return guarantee (not sure how long you have to return it, but here is 7 days with all brands, thereafter you can only send it for repairs) I suggest you return it and get XP to begin with, buy something green, like Asus which has a great system, good value, long battery life compared to 3 other major brands I've used and it has enough choices with the XP OS and the specifications you might like eg graphics card, memory, processor etc to give you a great deal and a laptop that'll prove its worth. At some stores they also offer you to upgrade certain things before the laptop is sent to you.

I've only had a few problems with Vista (black box for a cursor, refusing to turn on after sleep/hibernate mode, volume refuses to open, ect..) but I've gotten pretty used to it. I haven't gotten some of the more major problems, such as taking up lots of space and such.
Hopefully they can fix that or something.
